There is so much to see in Paris therefore getting all the necessary information about how to get around is crucial. The public transport system in the city is very extensive and includes trains, metro subway, buses and even some night buses.

The Metro in this city is a very efficient, fast and safe means of transport and caters to over 9 million people everyday. It covers more than 200 kilometers and has about 370 stations. The lines in the Metro are numbered one to fifteen and if you want to know where the train is heading you can check the last station line. There are some websites that provide maps that you can use while you are on the Metro system. These maps can be printed out and used during your visit. Tickets are needed when using the metro and a ticket inspector may request for the ticket during the journey. There are various signs on the platform that make it easy for you to get the right train. It is possible to change the train lines without purchasing another ticket so that you get to your destination. The trains run from half past five in the morning to half past midnight each day.

Getting around in Paris is also easy because there are various buses that you can use. The routes that the buses go through are numbered and they begin operating at half past six in the morning until around half past nine in the evening for a majority of them. Some of the buses will run until half past midnight but this will usually be indicated at the stops. The night buses in Paris are referred to as the Noctambus and they run from after midnight to five in the morning. These buses are marked with letters instead of numbers. It is easy to find maps that indicate the routes taken in the buses or in the various bus shelters.

To get single tickets, you can purchase them from the bus drivers while a booklet that contains ten tickets can be purchased from subway stations, certain bus terminals, registered retailers and bookshops. If you intend to use the metro, you will only need to have one ticket but the bus rides will require several depending on the number of stages that you will ride. One ticket is only enough for a ride to the end of one bus line. It is also possible to get a pass that is referred to as the Paris Visite that will save you time you would have spent on the queues.
